Plain bagels are the go for lunchboxes and work.
Our favourite fillings are:
Mum: salad leaves, smoked chicken and mango chutney
Dad: ham, cheese, tomato and relish – he stuffs them in the toasted sandwich maker at work to melt the cheese!
Kids: ham and salad OR lettuce, cheese and vegemite OR roast meat and veges with mayo or relish
Tip: when making lunches in advance, spread both bagel halves with mayo, butter or margarine: it seals them and stops the bagel going soggy.
