Company Profile

ABE’S® Real Bagels Ltd was started by two people - Megan Sargent and Brent Milburn.

Megan has always been able to create a strong image. Which is just as well - because that's just part of what she does as ABE'S Marketing Director.

At the age of 11, Brent built a car out of the parts of a lawnmower. He's still crazy about cars, and he still shows the kind of kiwi ingenuity that a company like ABE'S needs.

Together this is how they got a company like ABE'S Real Bagels started.

In 1995 Megan spent weeks in the US researching bagels, convinced that Kiwis would love the bagel taste sensation.

Brent shortly followed her, living for a while with a bagel-maker and his family, learning how to make bagels the real way.

In 1996 they brought this knowledge and enthusiasm back to New Zealand, and called on the bagel's Jewish heritage for the brand name [Abe, short for the Jewish name Abraham] and ABE'S Real Bagels was born. While initially the going was tough financially, several years later the business employs over 50 people, and supplies bagels throughout the country.

Bagel Crisps and Bagel Bites have been added to the product range and we're now sending our Bagel Crisps to Australian supermarkets! Megan and Brent continue to share a passion for creating the best bagels and bagel crisps in the world - and for running a company that cares for its customers and community.

If you have any feedback you'd like to give Megan or Brent please email info@abesrealbagels.com They'd love to hear from you!
